Jonathan, a drowning President –El-Rufai

Image
El-Rufai A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has described President Goodluck Jonathan as a drowning President, who distorts facts. El-Rufai, in a statement on Wednesday, insisted that Jonathan had resorted to ethnic and religious politics to score some political points. The President’s spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, on Sunday described el-Rufai as “a serial liar” while responding to an interview the former minister granted  Liberty FM, Kaduna, on Saturday. El-Rufai, in the interview, said Jonathan was playing religious and ethnic politics. The former minister, who, on Wednesday, insisted that Jonathan was playing the ethnic game, noted that the Presidency had not addressed issues he raised on Saturday. Nigeria's Police Are Corrupted, Full Of Armed Robbers, Extortionists

Image
Nigeria Police Nigerian policemen are deeply involved in unlawful activities and lose their lives every day because of that, the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of a Police Zone 6 Command, Mr. Jonathan Johnson, has admitted. He also acknowledged soaring corruption in the Criminal Investigation Department (CDI) of the Police Force. He made this statement during his visit to Akwa Ibom State Police Command in Uyo on Tuesday. The AIG further lamented, "If you investigate our men, you will discover they are armed robbers. They are not contented with what they have. "We go to the road to extort money from people, engage in illegal business, and liaise with armed robbers." He, however, warned police officers who engage in criminal acts: when caught, they would be dismissed. "No criminal has lived in his criminality and has never been caught. If you want to live in palava, you will die in palava." He went on alleging that police officers sold ammuni

Independence Day.. India celebrates 66 years of freedom on August 15.

'Independence Day celebrations too 'sacred' to be changed'   NAGPUR: Change is the only constant thing in life, goes a saying. But this does not seem to be the case with the Independence Day celebrations in our schools. For nearly as long as one can remember, the routine has remained the same. Flag hoisting, national anthem, garlanding of the portraits of national heroes, and then speeches, parades and cultural programmes in varying order. Flag hoisting, national anthem, garlanding of the portraits  of national heroes, and then speeches, parades and cultural  programmes in varying order. Most school heads are of the opinion that the 'customs' followed on this day are too 'pious' to be changed. "The order in which these things are done have always remained the same, and will remain that way. It is because the flag is the most important symbol of our nation, and it comes first. So, saluting it is fir

No money to meet ASUU’s demands, says Okonjo-Iweala

Minna— There ap-pears to be no end in sight to the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, in the country as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala declared, yesterday, that the nation’s economy cannot accommodate the demands of the lecturers for now. The minister spoke while delivering her keynote address at the opening ceremony of this year’s National Council on Finance and Economic Development, NACOFED, in Minna, Niger State, yesterday. Okonjo-Iweala She said that if other sectors were to be adequately and urgently developed, less emphasis should be placed on recurrent expenditure, especially salaries and allowances of workers. GOVERNANCE: Respect your age, Jonathan blasts Akande

Image
ABUJA— PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, admonished Interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande, to stop being ill-mannered and hypocritical. He said the APC chieftain should respect his age and Nigeria. The President was responding to comments attributed to Akande, weekend, that he was a “kindergarten” leader who treated national issues with levity. In a statement by Dr Reuben Abati, President Jonathan’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, entitled: “President Jonathan to Akande: Respect the truth, your age and Nigeria,” the president said it was sad that Akande was denigrating the exalted office of the President of Nigeria. Bisi Akande and Goodluck Jonathan Noting that he was yet to declare whether or not he would seek re-election, which he was constitutionally entitled to, he asked Akande and leaders of the APC to resolve their internal leadership problems arising from alleged ambitions of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and  General

APC Blasts Jonathan Again, Offers Him to Go to Court

Image
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has offered President Goodluck Jonathan to go to court if he felt discredited by the description of his presidency as a ‘kindergarten presidency’ by the Interim National Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande. The APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a statement issued in Accra on August 12, 2013, said Chief Akande merely told the truth by his characterization of the Jonathan presidency, adding ”Isn’t truth a defence to libel?” It also said there was nothing strange or wrong in criticizing a democratically-elected President, after all he is neither an Imperial President, a Monarchy nor an Emperor. APC said nothing confirmed Chief Akande’s assertion that Jonathan is running a kindergarten presidency than the crude manner it (presidency) responded to the frank but constructive criticism by the APC National Chairman. “In the true character of this presidency, its increasingly irreverent and undignified spokesman f
