Cesc Fabregas Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas has challenged former side Arsenal to maintain their consistency ahead of what could be a crucial Premier League run-in,  Mirror.co.uk  reports. The table-topping Gunners visit Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime, and a win would seem them extend their lead over Chelsea and Manchester City to five points. Fabregas, who played for Arsenal from 2003-2011, said he would be delighted to see his old team win the title, but admitted it was  difficult to keep a run going as the season reaches the business end. Blasts in Cairo's Ain Shams district, Egypt.. At least three police officers were injured in twin blasts in Cairo Friday, Egyptian state media reported. The explosions took place on a bridge in the Egyptian capital and targeted a police check point, according to state media. Instability has raged in Egypt since the military toppled democratically-elected Mohamed Morsy last year. Security forces have also cracked down on the Islamist movement that supported him, the Muslim Brotherhood. Last month, a powerful explosion hit the police headquarters in Cairo. A group of soldiers in the Central African Republic lynched a man they suspected was a rebel minutes after hearing the new president's promise to restore security at a ceremony to reinstate the divided country's armed forces. About 20 uniformed soldiers accused a member of the crowd of having belonged to Seleka - the mostly Muslim rebel group that seized power in a coup last March, before stabbing him repeatedly until he was dead. A soldier stamped on the lifeless body, which was then dragged nearly naked through the streets as residents looked on and took photographs.

The Doornkop mine accident occurred 1,700m below ground Two miners have died in separate accidents at mines owned by Harmony Gold in South Africa. They follow the deaths earlier this week of eight miners in a fire and subsequent rock fall at Harmony Gold's Doornkop mine, west of Johannesburg. Rescuers are still trying to locate a miner at Doornkop who might have been underground at the time of the fire. Mining experts have called for an investigation into Harmony Gold's safety measures. It is not clear what caused the Doornkop accident, which happened on Tuesday evening about 1,700m (5,600ft) below ground after some seismic activity in the area.

North and South Korea have agreed to hold reunions for families separated after the Korean War, following calls from Pyongyang to improve ties. The reunions are scheduled to take place in February. If held, they would be the first reunions since 2010. In September, the North cancelled a planned reunion, blaming "hostility" from the South. The move comes ahead of annual US-South Korea military drills later this month, which are expected to anger the North. Millions were separated from their families by the division of the Korean peninsula after the 1950-1953 war. The reunion events are often emotional occasions where North and South Koreans meet briefly in the North before heading home again. The programme was suspended after the North's shelling of a South Korean border island in November 2010.

Gov. Adam Oshiomhole of Edo on Monday said that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President, could not be a godfather to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Oshiomhole made this known when he spoke with newsmen after paying a solidarity visit to APC secretariat in Asaba. He said that it was not possible for Atiku to become godfather to a party he did not form, adding that “Atiku came to join what already existed, so he cannot be a father to APC. “But what you should talk about Atiku joining APC is the fact that such an eminent Nigerian, one time vice president of a ruling party can find comfort in leaving the party to join the alternative platform.

WAEC The West African Examinations Council has announced the introduction of 39 new subjects in its examinations.  The Council’s Acting Head, Test Development Division, Mrs. Olayinka Ajibade, who announced this, said the new subjects would commence in this year’s May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination. Ajibade said this while delivering a paper titled “The New Senior Secondary Education Curriculum in Nigeria: Implications for Assessment” at the council’s monthly seminar in Lagos on Friday. The fresh initiative, she said, was in accordance with the Nigerian Education Research and Development Council’s new secondary school curriculum. The NERDC is the body responsible for reviewing primary and secondary schools’ curricula in the country. 20 year old Isaac Anya Ojiabo Jr. (pictured above) has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Joy Ojiabo, who was found beaten and stabbed to death at their million dollar home in Forest Hill, Maryland. When police arrived at the home of 51 year old Joy Ojiabo around 5pm on Wednesday Jan. 29th, they found her suffering from multiple injuries, "to include a large, wooden handled knife protruding from her chest.". She was pronounced dead 20 minutes later. Isaac Ojiabo Snr, the deceased's husband who called the police said Isaac Jr., had escaped with his mother's Lexus SUV after the stabbing.
