Bright Dike to cheer Falconets in Women’s U-20 World Cup final

Super Eagles striker, Bright Dike, will cheer his sister Courtney and the Falconets when Nigeria plays in the final of FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup on Sunday, Nigeria crushed North Korea 6-2 to set up a repeat of the 2010 final against Germany , who defeated France 2:1.   “Nigeria and @CourtneyDike just too much for Korea! I definitely have to come watch her play live in the U-20 World Cup Final,” africanFootball.com quoted a proud big Dike as saying on twitter on Thursday. Courtney Dike has scored two quick goals at the tournament for Nigeria including Wednesday’s opening goal against Korea DPR after just two minutes. The 19-year-old striker, who is under a sports scholarship in the United States, has surpassed all expectations after she was initially picked as a makeweight player for Canada 2014. She now holds the record for the fastest goal ever scored at this World Cup, when she fired home after 18 seconds against Korea Republic in the competition group stage.

A 19 year old welder apprentice was caught yesterday August 19th after having sex with a chicken at the Continental area of Akure, the Ondo state capital. According to reports by Vanguard, the boy was discovered to have committed the act after the owner of the chicken, Mrs Stella Akintola, who is the boy's neighbor and reared chickens in the compound, heard her chickens making noise inside their pen and decided to go and find out why they were restless.  When she got to her hen pen, the young man surfaced from a corner and said he had stomach upset and was on his way out of the compound toilet. Mrs Akintola not suspecting anything then moved to use the compound toilet where she discovered one of her chickens lying dead in the toilet. When she tried to raise an alarm, the young man quickly appealed to her not to shout confessing that he was responsible for the chickens death and promised to replace the dead chicken. FIFA committee rejects Barcelona's appeal against transfer ban

Barcelona will be unable to sign new players in the next two windows after a FIFA committee upheld their transfer ban. Luis Suarez: Signed from Liverpool while transfer ban was suspended The ban, suspended in April pending an appeal, was handed down after Barca were found guilty of breaching rules governing the international transfer of minors. Barca fought their corner with FIFA's Appeals Committee but have been told the embargo stands. The club immediately confirmed it will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). The FIFA ruling means there will be no new arrivals at the Nou Camp between this September and January 2016 - provided CAS do not overturn the ruling. The office of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in Abuja is on fire with fire fighters battling to put down the inferno, africanFootball.com reports. The office of the NFF general secretary has already been razed down, along with those of other principal officers of the federation. This comes on the heels of acrimonious events leading to the August 26 elections into the federation’s executive committee.

Ebola: Nigerian, two Guineans under watch in Ogun

Two Guineans and a Nigerian have been isolated and kept under close observation at Imeko – Afon, Ogun border community with the Republic of Benin. The three who entered Nigeria illegally through the porous Ogun border community, were  intercepted by the operative of the Ports Health Services(PHS) and put on close watch following the suspects’ inability to convince the officials that they had no primary or secondary contact with Ebola Virus Disease(EVD). The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka made this known to reporters in Abeokuta, the state capital, while intimating them on the efforts of the state government to prevent the spread of the virus in the state. According Soyinka,  the Guineans and a Nigerian, were returning  from Guinea last Friday and had attempted to use illegal route at the border when the PHS officials accosted and questioned them on their EVD status.

Women’s U-20 World Cup: Falconets coach happy to break Q/F jinx

The Head coach of Nigeria U-20 Women’s national team, Peter Dedevbo, has expressed his delight with the Falconets’ 4-1 win over New Zealand in Sunday’s quarter final game of the ongoing Women’s U-20 World Cup in Canada. Dedevbo led the U-17 women national team to two quarter final appearances at the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago 2010 and Azerbaijian 2012 respectively. But on Sunday, a brace each from Rivers Angels’ pair of Asisat Oshoala and Sunday Uchechi at the Moncton Stadium fired the Nigerians past the Oceania side into their third consecutive semi-finals at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Goal reports. On the secret behind his team’s victory over New Zealand, Dedevbo told Goal that the successful execution of the extra practice on creating and converting chances aided the Falconets’ victory.
