Imo State Governor Sacks Commissioner For Physical Assault

Imo State Governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, has suspended the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Nma Onyechere, “with immediate effect”. Confirming the development in a telephone interview, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant, SSA, Media, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, explained that the suspension followed the unwarranted physical assault the woman unleashed on a serving Commissioner in the Local Government Service Commission, Chief Emeka Okoronkwo. “Governor received a complaint that the suspended Commissioner physically assaulted a serving Commissioner in the Local Government Service Commission, Chief Emeka Okoronkwo”.

President Goodluck Jonathan has relieved four Ministers of their duties, as was announced at the Federal Executive Council meeting. Who The relieved Ministers are Stella Oduah (Aviation), Caleb Olubolade (Police Affairs), Godsday Orubebe (Niger Delta Police Affairs), and Yerima Ngama (State, Finance). It will be recalled that Stella Oduah's case is related to corruption-related offences. Both the House of Representatives and a presidential committee indicted her for approving purchase of two bullet-proof cars for N255m. Investigations have also revealed that Oduah has forged her academic qualifications. SOCKING: Aviation minister Stella Oduah resigns

Stella Oduah, Nigeria’s powerful minister of aviation has quit President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet. Her resignation was announced today after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja. There was no official reason given for the resignation, which followed corruption scandals and certificate racketeering involving her. The woman had defied the gravity of the allegations, including her indictment by a House of Representatives Committee, that she bought, without lawful approval, two armored BMW cars at grossly inflated price of N255million from Coscharis Motors. She was also accused of lying about having a masters degree in Business administration which she never had. The other ministers that also resigned are Elder Godsday Orubebe, the Minister of the Niger Delta, Caleb Olubolade, the Minister of Police Affairs and the Minister of State For Finance, Yerima Ngama. HILARIOUS: Father padlocks son’s mouth, beats him to death in Lagos

Unbelievable! You read some stories and just cringe. According to a shocking report by PM News, a father beat his 4 year old son to death and padlocked his mouth to prevent him from shouting while the beating lasted. The full report below... The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at 7, Adetola Adelaja Street, Meiran area of Lagos. It was gathered that the man, Mr. Chris Elvis, who claims to sell computer accessories, allegedly locked his son, Godrich in the room, padlocked his mouth and beat him to death with an object that inflicted deep cuts all over his body, claiming that the boy was an Ogbanje (evil child that dies and reincarnates repeatedly).  The man landed in trouble when his landlady, Mrs Popoola who was in the market, was informed that something was happening in her house. The Association of Nigerian Comedians has issued a statement accusing Ghanaian politicians of trying to put them out of business. Nigerian comedians who have hitherto dominated the Ghanaian comedy scene are suddenly facing stiff competition from our politicians. The comedians argue that Ghanaian politicians are becoming hysterically funny making it difficult for them to sell their shows.  Speaking at a press conference held at the Nigerian High Commission in Accra, the president of the association said, “We have reason to believe there is a conspiracy by Ghanaian politicians to put us out of business and eventually expel us from this country, like we did to our Ghanaian brothers in ’83.

UPDATE: Another Plane‬ Crash‬ In Algeria‬ killing 77 people

An Algerian military transport plane has crashed into a mountain and exploded, killing 77 people. One person survived, the the government and military confirmed. 77 people killed in a military plane crash in Algeria on Tuesday, Feb. 11 Previously it had been reported by officials and local media that 103 died in the crash. Most of the 78 people on board were military personnel and their family members, women and children among them. Rescuers recovered 77 bodies from the crash site.  Credit: AFP  "We have found a survivor and the search continues," Colonel Farid Nechad said on Tuesday. The lone survivor was taken to a hospital in Constantine where he is being treated for head injuries, reports said. ANTI-GAY LAW: We’ll Pressure Nigeria To Reverse The Law – United States

The United States government has vowed to continue to press the Nigerian government to reverse its anti-gay law. The US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said this during a live-web chat with journalists in Washington. Our correspondent monitored the web chat in Abuja. Thomas-Greenfield also said that America was not bothered that Chinese companies were fast taking over the African market from their US counterparts. President Goodluck Jonathan had on January 7, 2014  assented  to the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Bill 2013 which criminalises homosexuality in the country. On January 14 when it became public that the President had signed the bill into law, the US, Canada and the European Union openly expressed reservations over the law.

Two Islamic clerics as jeep, bus plunge into canal

... on Sunday Two Islamic clerics lost their lives on Saturday after  their jeep collided with a bus and plunged into a canal at the Iyana Ipaja end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. PUNCH Metro  learnt that the victims, Alhaji Akinsola Al-Ameen and Muyideen Thiamiyu, were coming back from Ikorodu when their vehicle had a tyre burst around 10pm. According to eyewitnesses, after the tyre burst, Thiamiyu, who was the driver, lost control of the vehicle. He was said to be attempting to bring the jeep to a halt when a big yellow bus with number plate FKJ 201 SH rammed into them, causing both vehicles to veer off the expressway into the canal. A relative of Al-Ameen, who preferred to remain anonymous because he was not authorised to speak on behalf of the family, said the clerics were on their way to the Ifo area of Ogun State when the unfortunate incident occurred.
