REPORT: Missing Chibok Girls Now Found in Balmo Forest

There was panic on Wednesday when news filtered in that, Boko Haram terrorists may have relocated the over 200 abducted girls of Government Secondary School, Chibok and other abducted victims from Sambisa forest to a new location in Balmo Forest, which borders Borno and Bauchi states. It was gathered that communities close to the Sambisa forest raised the alarm, disclosing that they saw a large number of Boko Haram militants leaving the thick jungle early in the day of Wednesday and driving towards the border town near Bauchi. A military source had confirmed that the security agencies had started putting in place strategies to deal with the development, while all hands are now on deck to ensure security is properly beefed up in the areas where the insurgents were believed to be relocating to.

Eto’o - Goodbye to international soccer

Cameroon’s record goalscorer, Samuel Eto’o, has retired from international football, the four-time African player of the year announced on Wednesday. The 33-year-old, who recently signed for Premier League Everton, scored 56 goals in 118 appearances after making his debut as a 15-year-old in 1997, Reuters reports. “I wish to inform you that I hereby put a definitive end to my international career,” Reuters quoted Eto’o as saying in a statement on his Facebook page. “On this occasion, I wish to thank all Africans in particular and all my fans around the world for their love and unconditional support. Find here the expression of my deep gratitude.” Eto’o played at four World Cups, lifted two African Cup of Nations in 2000 and 2002, and was part of the team that won the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

Commander killed as Gunmen attack army camp in Bauchi

Unknown gunmen on Thursday morning attacked an Army camp manned by six armed soldiers at Wunti -Dada, a suburb of Bauchi the state capital. One of the soldiers, a sergeant and commander of the camp was killed while a private sustained gunshot on his leg. It was learnt that one of the attackers was shot and killed,but others who came on two Bajal motorcycles ran away when other soldiers opened fire. The attack occurred at about 5:20am, minutes after the Muslim first prayer of the day. Our source informed that the soldiers were taken unawares adding that “I was afraid and did not get very close to the camp,but I think some soldiers might have been injured too”. Wunti-Dada has been one of the known security challenge points within the state capital with a lot of unusual incidents. In 2010,some men and women suspected to members of the dreaded Boko Haram group were arrested there after they kidnapped the daughter of a former head of the Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja.

Woman and teenage girl electrocuted in Lagos

A middle aged woman and her younger sister were on Tuesday electrocuted in Amukoko, a Lagos suburb. The incident occurred at about 3.00am in the morning when a high tension wire belonging to the Power Holding Company of Nigeria fell on the roof of a house on No 8, Olumokun Street, Amukoko and sparked a fire. Residents reportedly scampered to different directions to avoid being electrocuted. However, a 12-year -old girl simply identified as Fatima, said to have visited her elder sister on vacation from Niger State was electrocuted. Fatima was electrocuted when she ran and held an iron used to stand a canopy. When her elder sister who neighbours referred to as Mama Ibrahim noticed that Fatima had fallen on the iron and was motionless, she screamed her name hoping she would answer. But when Fatima did not reply, Mama Ibrahim moved to where the young girl was and tried to rescue her and was also electrocuted. Tears flowed freely as neighbours who could not salvage the situa
