Commander killed as Gunmen attack army camp in Bauchi

Unknown gunmen on Thursday morning attacked an Army camp manned by six armed soldiers at Wunti -Dada, a suburb of Bauchi the state capital.
One of the soldiers, a sergeant and commander of the camp was killed while a private sustained gunshot on his leg.
It was learnt that one of the attackers was shot and killed,but others who came on two Bajal motorcycles ran away when other soldiers opened fire.
The attack occurred at about 5:20am, minutes after the Muslim first prayer of the day.
Our source informed that the soldiers were taken unawares adding that “I was afraid and did not get very close to the camp,but I think some soldiers might have been injured too”.
Wunti-Dada has been one of the known security challenge points within the state capital with a lot of unusual incidents.
In 2010,some men and women suspected to members of the dreaded Boko Haram group were arrested there after they kidnapped the daughter of a former head of the Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja.
Guns and a lot of ammunitions including improvised explosives divices were discovered in their rooms.
But when contacted on phone,the 33 Artillery Brigade spokesman told The Nation that he was not in a position to comment in the incident and asked that the Army headquarters in Abuja be contacted.
The Bauchi State Police Command Spokesman, DSP Haruna Mohammed had earlier referred our correspondent to “contact the Army for details”.
